Bre and Michelle Walking to the Race

This past Saturday I ran The Color Run with a group of blogger and non-blogger friends. We had been planning the event for a couple of months; getting together to make tutus and shirts, coordinating socks and meeting times.

It’s important for you to remember, we live in Arizona, where it is always sunny.   The last few weeks have been unseasonable warm. The Saturday before the race was a warm, sunny day in the 70′s. So I planned for the race accordingly; short sleeves and shorts.

We are Ready!!!!

As the race got closer there was some rain in the forecast but I wasn’t too concerned. We rarely have full days of desert rain, typically just some showers before they quickly move on. The Friday before the race it was predicted to be rainy too, instead it was gorgeous. I thought for sure we were in the clear.

Start Line!

Saturday morning, before my 4 AM alarm went off, I woke up to the lovely pitter-patter of the rain on my window. No big deal, we were running in Phoenix.  They always get less rain than us, so surely it would be nice and clear.

Wrong. Completely wrong. As we made our trip to Phoenix, the rain got heavy, the roads were flooded, and visibility was minimal.

After Three Color Stations!

Oh well, nothing I could do now, I was running this race is an outfit made for summer on a day that was 50 degrees and pouring!!!

The Blue Station was CRAZY!!! Bre and Michelle got it in their mouths.

We made it to the start line greeted by our Phoenix bloggers and we were already soaking wet. We all just smiled and laughed and thought, “We are going to get some awesome pictures!”

See how happy we are!?!

Regardless of the cold rain and the flooded color stations, where you trudged through colorful mud, the race was seriously a blast. We laughed, met new people, and made wonderful memories.

After! Cold and wet, but mostly colorful and happy!

I would highly recommend participating in The Color Run to anyone. Even if it turns out to be a cold, rainy day and you lose feeling in your fingers and toes, I promise it will be worth it!! My only word of warning,  you will need to take at least three showers before you stop looking like a smurf. I promise it will be worth it.

At the end if the day you’re left with a load of very colorful laundry (that for the most part will come completely clean…my tutu looks brand new again), a beautiful race bib, and loads of memories to go with it!
